We are, of course, thrilled that we’ve got a four day weekend coming up (as we’re sure you are too). It’s slightly more than the usual extended bank holiday 3-day weekend, so feels just that little bit more like a holiday. Whether it’s time to relax and recuperate, enjoy a late night or two with time to refresh before returning to work, jet setting away for the weekend or just getting your life admin done, it’s such a treat. But how does it effect your workload and what effect does this have on you and your stress levels?
Effectively, we have to fit 5 days of work into 4 days – and if you’re working in an agency based environment like we do at Biscuit, you’re working around your clients' deadlines too. So what are the the most important things to remember to make your 4 day week as productive and efficient as possible? We think it’s flexibility, prioritising and structuring your day properly. Spending your jam packed four day week (twice in a row) firefighting won’t get anyone anywhere. Structure your week ahead, be prepared and make allowances for changes, and look at what needs to be achieved, what you’d like to achieve, and what might be wasting time and can most certainly wait. Studies show that we all spend far too much time procrastinating in the office (http://www.inc.com/jayson-demers/how-much-time-do-your-employees-waste-at-work-each-day.html), so – however difficult – those subconscious daydreams, quick Facebook visits, the forty-sixth cup of tea? Knock it on the head! You’ll save yourself bags of time.
Most importantly, keep calm – getting yourself in a flap is a clearcut way of wasting time. Be rational, level-headed and seek solutions rather than create problems for yourself. If you don’t, how are you going to enjoy those blissful 4 days off?!
Happy Easter!
